I wrote up a “How To” for the writing project over at Problogger this week - Write a Directory Submission That Gets Accepted. Darren collected hundreds of entries, many of which were business related - money, startups, organizing, blogging, and so much more. I’ve collected a list here of those and wanted to share them with you. Many of these site have some great information for business owners and bloggers, and I really love what these writing projects can do for blogs! Please, take a look!

Hey Lara,
Thanks for the link. It’s nice when someone actually takes the time to read the posts on a project like this.
Sorry it took me so long to comment, I didn’t see the link on T-rati til just now.
Thanks again,
Joe
ps.
Please don’t think that I was dismissing your advice on my blog, there is a lot going on outside of the online world.
I do appreciate your expertise and hope you didn’t take offense.
Thanks again,
Joe

Hi:
I read your article and followed the links to: Skaffe and JoeAnt. Both were pay for link directories (at least, that’s what I found. maybe I’m wrong). I didn’t use them. However, your advice is timely and useful for how to actually do a submission and I enjoyed reading it. Thanks!
There are some wonderful sites to do submissions. I believe that the human touch of the submission, 1 by 1, not by a software program, are most effective. I actually enjoy visiting these sites anyway. It may be tedious, but it’s worth it. PR Web is something I would use if I could afford it. (but I don’t use prweb.com; I would if I had a big company, however.)
Thanks. I love the big ‘how to’ list!

Thanks for the link. It’s incredible how much I learn everytime Darren has one of these contests. Also, you’ve got some great information here. I’m going to be checking out your site regularly.

Mary - Skaffe and JoeAnt ARE paid directories, my apologies if I didn’t make that clear enough! What I was saying there is that for step one, you need to make sure that your site isn’t already listed, because those are two examples of human-edited directories, where the editors will often find your site and list it on their own - so there’s no NEED to pay. Not searching for your site first, might put you in a place for paying when you didn’t have to - you could skip over it entirely, since you’re already listed. If you’re not (and the only way to tell is with a search on the directory site itself) then yes, you’d either have to pay, or become/make friends with an editor.
Ray - Thanks for stopping in and commenting! I plan on really keeping up with the blog, so do indeed stop by regularly!
